, i don't know if you say it, but a day or two before the shooting in newtown there was a news report, a video security camera in new york where a guy walks off the subway takes three steps turns around pulls a gun out shoots a guy in the stomach. i don't know whether he lived or died. it was over a sporting argument, and that wasn't even a one day story. it was one of the most at sounding things i'd ever seen, so it's not just the gut-wrenching tragedy that we saw at newtown. we have to keep speaking out. it's every time the insanity interrupts our lives and ends lives, and so i'm going to keep talking. i'm -- the people in kentucky, again, every other member of the delegation in kentucky, you mentioned senator mcconnell. every other member of the federal delegation has an a rating from the n.r.a. it's very rare they hear anything different than that. it's incumbent on me as the only person who favors gun regulation in the state of kentucky to speak out to others here the other side of the story and i'm going to keep doing that. >> cenk: so that would appear to be somewhat of a polit

think it's been a travesty in the wake of newtown, and yes, we should have a conversation about gun control and there should be parody with taking care of the mental health of americans. that discussion has been drowned out or lost or lost or never, ever happened. mr. lanza was obviously a very sick individual and needed help. i'm not sure the mental health discussion has gotten enough attention. what do you think? >> no, it hasn't. in fact, what's been happening is, of course, there's been more stereo typing stereotyping ever people with mental illness calling these people crazy. yes, he probably did have autism and/or asperger's, but people with those disorders don't generally become violent and what's interesting is that on some of the stories on the internet there are people who have made -- posted comments blaming what he did because there have been some unconfirmed reports that maybe he was take something medication. people have made comments blaming the shooting rampage on the medication. this isn't true. the problem is that people -- anybody who needs medication needs to be

and washington working together, negotiating on this bill and what happened in newtown. but in middle america, nothing happens in a bubble. people are still shattered by that. and anybody that is dragging their feet, fighting, seeming petty less than a week after -- i'm sorry, this is the worst tragedy i can think of as far as just shattering the soul of this country. i say since 9/11, in my lifetime. 9/11 and this. then i guess you'd have to go back to kennedy's assassination. i can't believe how shaken -- people are just talking about this all the time. they're looking at washington squabbling over numbers. and since they've already decided on the big issues, they're just thinking, they're so dysfunctional. and whoever gets the blame for this, it's in big trouble politically. >> no question. and it's not just on the fiscal stuff. it's on other things, too. i mean, you know, i thought your incredibly eloquent statement last week reflects what a lot of people feel including a lot of people who have had reservations before about doing something. that fight's just about to begin. the high water
